We are now a week into the month of August.
This time of the year, which is often referred to as the “dog days” of the season, is when we finally see the postseason landscape become clear, as certain teams separate themselves from the rest of the pack, for better or worse.
Often times, there are cases of two teams going in opposite directions.
Such is the case for the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres.
Despite being sellers at this year’s trade deadline, the Mariners are red-hot, having won six consecutive games.
The Padres on the other hand, were playing better baseball until they fell on hard times again.
They have lost three consecutive games.
On Twitter, MLB insider Bob Nightengale took note of how these two teams are headed in opposite directions.
The #Mariners win again, 2-0.
The #Padres lose again.
The Mariners are on fire.
The Padres continue to be a complete mess.

The Mariners and Padres are currently playing each other in a three-game series.
After Tuesday night’s win over the Friars, the Mariners have a chance to sweep the series and win their seventh straight game.
The Padres were expected to be a clear contender this season after a deep run to the NLCS last year.
They fell short against the Philadelphia Phillies, but had assembled a stacked roster for 2023.
However, they are now four games below the .500 mark.
They are still alive in the Wild Card race, as they sit only four games back, but time is running out.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are rolling and have come to within two games of the final Wild Card spot in the American League.
