The Detroit Tigers are once again having a rather difficult season.
Despite being just four games behind the Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins for the top spot in the AL Central, they are nine games below the .500 mark and are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline.
One potential trade candidate is veteran right-hander Michael Lorenzen.
Lorenzen is currently on an expiring contract after joining the Tigers on a one-year deal.
The 31-year-old owns a record of 2-6 with an ERA of 4.28 in his 14 starts this season.
On Twitter, MLB Network analyst Jon Morosi pointed out that he could be a trade candidate.
Tigers RHP Michael Lorenzen is one trade candidate to watch this month, given the apparent shortage of available starting pitchers. He’s on an affordable, expiring contract and has been a league-average starter this season by ERA+. @MLBNetwork

With the Tigers likely selling, there could be several contending teams that take interest in Lorenzen.
A team like the New York Yankees could potentially use him.
They are currently without Nestor Cortes, Carlos Rodon, and Frankie Montas, though Rodon is expected to return on Friday.
Morosi didn’t list any potential suitors for Lorenzen, but the right-hander has proven to be a league-average starting pitcher this season and could be a solid stopgap for teams that need to fill holes in their starting rotations.
Lorenzen spent last season with the Los Angeles Angels and had a 4.24 ERA over 18 starts while posting a record of 8-6.
The veteran can also be used as a long relief option should a team be looking for a stopgap in the bullpen.
The Tigers will certainly be an interesting team to watch come the trade deadline.
