The month of June is now behind us, and it is now time to focus on July as we move closer to the All-Star break, draft, and trade deadline.
July is more often than not the time when it becomes clear who the true contenders are in each league and what the postseason landscape will look like.
In June, there was a ton of movement in the standings for three divisions.
The Oakland Athletics, who own baseball’s worst record, went 10-16 in June, which was better than seven teams.
The Atlanta Braves went 21-4 in the month and picked up 15 games in the NL East on the slumping New York Mets.
The Cincinnati Reds also came from 26-33 and third place in the NL Central, going on an 18-5 run to take control of first place.
On Twitter, MLB insider Bob Nightengale pointed out this interesting trend.

It’s safe to say that a lot happened in June.
In the Reds’ case, they were seven games below the .500 mark and the NL Central appeared to be a two-horse race between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Even the struggling St. Louis Cardinals still had hope of getting back into the race.
But the Reds went on a surge and now find themselves at the top.
The Braves simply widened their lead in the NL East and all but buried the Mets.
They even lead by seven games over the Miami Marlins.
Oakland remains at the bottom of the pack, but they still managed to play much better than seven MLB teams.
They even went on a seven-game winning streak.
As July begins, it’s possible that more odd trends could take place.
