The month of April has come and gone.

While it’s still early in the season, we now have a clearer look at who the best teams are and who may end up on the outside looking in.

There were several surprises this past month.

For example, the Pittsburgh Pirates were picked by many to finish near the bottom of the NL Central.

Lo and behold, they have the best record in the National League.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have also proven to be a tough team.

Other teams, such as the St. Louis Cardinals and Seattle Mariners, have proven to be disappointments.

With one month gone, MLB insider Ben Verlander ranked his Top 10 teams as we roll into the month of May.

To nobody’s surprise, at least by now, the Tampa Bay Rays are at the top of the list.

Tampa Bay began the season by winning 13 consecutive games and they still have the best record in all of baseball.

Verlander has the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays, and Houston Astros in the next three spots.

All three of those teams have performed well as of late and look to be prepared for another solid season.

The Pirates round out Verlander’s top five, but the second-place Milwaukee Brewers are right behind their NL Central rivals in Verlander’s power rankings.

The Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers have proven to be a little bit better than people expected this year.

The final two spots on Verlander’s list belong to the New York Mets and Minnesota Twins, respectively.
