The Boston Red Sox have surprised many around the game this year.

After winning just 78 games last season and losing some key pieces such as Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez, Nathan Eovaldi, and Michael Wacha, they weren’t expected to do much.

Yet here they are flying under the radar as the trade deadline approaches.

Unfortunately, they are stuck in perhaps the best and most competitive division in all of baseball, that being the AL East.

They currently sit in fourth place, eight games back of first with a record of 51-45.

However, they’re just 1.5 games back in the Wild Card race.

On the MLB podcast “Foul Territory,” MLB insider Scott Braun stated that he thinks Boston should buy at the trade deadline.

Braun admitted that he didn’t expect the Red Sox to be very good this season.

However, the Red Sox have flown under the radar and proved several people wrong this season.

In fact, it’s their heated rivals in the New York Yankees that are currently in last place in the AL East.

New York is nipping at their heels, but the Red Sox have won eight of their last 10 games and are right in the thick of the postseason chase.

The frugal moves they made appear to be paying off.

They signed Adam Duvall, Justin Turner, Kenley Jansen, and Masataka Yoshida this offseason, and they now find themselves very close to the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League, a spot which is currently occupied by the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.
