Monty Williams is hard at work with his new job as head coach of the Detroit Pistons.

With that position comes a lot of responsibilities and choices, including who will be playing when the season kicks off in a few weeks.

Wiliams told Mike Curtis, via Ballislife, that he is still deciding who will get a pivotal spot.

He said that both Marvin Bagley III and James Wiseman are currently competing to see who will earn the “more than likely” backup big man role with the team.

Williams said that both guys deserve it so the decision is tough.

He noted that Bagley has a “body of work” that is commendable while Wiseman is still learning and growing and shows great signs of potential.

Either player could be a fine choice for this bench position.

Last season, Bagley produced 12 points and 6.4 rebounds with a 52.9% field goal percentage.

Wiseman came to the team at mid-season and got to work right away.

He averaged 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds, a major step up from his months before with the Golden State Warriors.

Some people assume that Bagley will eventually earn the right to be the backup big man because of his extra experience and his longer tenure with the Pistons.

Williams is certainly weighing all of his options.

It’s just one of the many things he has to consider as the season gets going.

Williams signed a gigantic contract when he came to the team and was also given a gigantically tall order.

He is tasked with getting this troubled team back on track as quickly as possible.

Therefore, every decision counts.
