The Dallas Mavericks made a franchise-changing move when they traded for Luka Doncic.

It didn’t take long before the Real Madrid star proved the doubters wrong, taking the league by storm from the very first day, and getting better every single year.

He draws comparisons to Larry Bird and LeBron James, who are big-bodied point forwards with elite court vision who can stretch the floor.

Nonetheless, Detroit Pistons coach Monty Williams believes he’s more similar to Magic Johnson.

Following the Mavs’ loss to the Pistons, the coach stated that you can only hope he messes up when you throw different defenses at him because he’s the kind of player no one can truly make miss.

He believes he’s similar to Magic because of his size and vision (via Joey Mistretta and ClutchPoints).

Monty Williams compares Luka Doncic to Magic Johnson:

“You run different defenses at him, you’re just hoping he messes up because he’s just that good… He reminds me of Magic in that way. Those guys are big and have great vision.”

Doncic is currently leading the league in scoring and has almost averaged a triple-double for the season.

He makes things look easy, and the Mavs have been the best team in the Association since the trade deadline.

The Mavs are slated to square off with the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs again.

And for the first time in Doncic’s tenure in the league, he has a supporting cast that’s good enough to take some pressure off his shoulders, especially on defense.

He might not win MVP this season because of Nikola Jokic, but if this team keeps this level of play up, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him win the Larry O’Brien trophy.
