After more than half a year of waiting, the New York Jets finally got to see Aaron Rodgers take the field in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.
There was no better stage for Rodgers to make his debut than at home against an AFC East rival and a fellow Super Bowl contender in the Bills.
The crowd at MetLife Stadium roared when Rodgers took his first snap and cheered even more when he attempted his first pass.
However, the excitement quickly turned into despair when Rodgers stayed down on the ground after getting sacked.
The quarterback was eventually helped off the field and was later diagnosed with a torn Achilles, ending his 2023 NFL season before it ever really began.
Everyone in the Jets organization has to be devastated by the news and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett perhaps spoke for everyone when commenting on Rodgers’ injury via Rich Cimini of ESPN.
“I don’t have words to describe it,” Hackett said.

Hackett, like everyone else on the team, has to still be reeling about losing Rodgers for the year considering the optimism and expectations they had for themselves before the regular season started.
Without Rodgers, the Jets will be relying on Zach Wilson to carry them through the rest of the year though it’s not out of the question that they source help via a free agent or trade.
However, there’s no one that can truly replace Rodgers on the team so Hackett’s going to have to get creative with the offense without his starting quarterback.
