Left-hander MacKenzie Gore was one of the key pieces that the Washington Nationals acquired from the San Diego Padres in the trade for outfielder Juan Soto.
On Wednesday, the young lefty took the mound against the New York Mets and delivered a very strong performance.
Gore pitched six innings and allowed just one run on four hits.
He walked two batters and struck out 10.
His 10 strikeouts matched a career-high.
Gore also earned the win and improved his record to 3-1 on the year while lowering his ERA to 3.00.
On Twitter, the Nationals celebrated Gore’s accomplishment with a fun post featuring a video of all 10 of his strikeouts.

Gore simply was unhittable on Wednesday as he carved his way through the powerful Mets lineup.
The only run the hard-throwing left-hander allowed was on a base-hit by Mets outfielder Starling Marte.
Utilityman Eduardo Escobar scored on the play.
But that was all the Mets could muster against Gore.
The 24-year-old was selected by the Padres with the third pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
He made his MLB debut early last season before he was ultimately traded to the Nationals.
For his career, Gore owns a 7-5 record and an ERA of 4.08 in 21 appearances and 18 starts.
But he had one of his better starts on Wednesday against a stacked Mets lineup that features Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Mark Canha, Francisco Lindor, and Brandon Nimmo.
The Nationals improved to 9-14 on the season and ultimately earned a series win on Wednesday over the Mets, setting the stage for a potential sweep on Thursday.
