After flaming out with the Los Angeles Clippers, Russell Westbrook has been dealt to the Utah Jazz in a sign-and-trade deal that brings Kris Dunn to the City of Angels.
Sometime soon, Westbrook will be waived by Utah so he can sign with the Denver Nuggets to join forces with Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.
With no other NBA teams showing interest in Westbrook, who has bounced around the league ever since he was traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the former MVP is lucky that Jokic has taken a liking to him and lobbied for his team to bring him in.
After getting knocked out of the 2024 NBA Playoffs by the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves, the Nuggets have been struggling to upgrade their roster this summer, which has led to them adding Westbrook to help bolster the bench.
Although Denver is taking on a superstar past his prime, and a player who sometimes can do more harm than good with his wild style of play, Zach Lowe of ESPN said he thinks this can be considered a “why-not signing” for the Nuggets, via NBA on ESPN.
“This is just a why-not signing for the Nuggets. … They’re searching for an identity on their bench,” Lowe said.

The biggest problem the signing poses is Westbrook could again prove to be a player who ruins team chemistry on the floor, as he didn’t have much success during stints with the Lakers and Clippers.
However, Jokic reportedly called for this move, so it isn’t surprising that the former NBA champions would make it to satisfy their superstar.
