This will be a crucial offseason for the Boston Celtics, so it seems like even the smallest news could be huge news for the organization.

That includes what happens with their role players, and Grant Williams is obviously one of the most important in that regard.

Recently, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Williams underwent successful surgery on his left hand early on Friday, adding that he’ll be fully recovered for the start of training camp and ahead of the upcoming NBA season.

However, he may not be a part of the Celtics’ training cap, as he’s going to be a restricted free agent, and reports from midseason stated that they weren’t interested in bringing him back.

Williams — who’ll make his return to basketball-related activities in 6-to-8 weeks — had the best season of his career in 2022-23, averaging 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 dimes per game on almost 26 minutes per contest, and he’s a 45% three-point shooter per his career.

He reportedly played through a torn ligament during the Eastern Conference Finals, and he had some big moments as Joe Mazzulla’s team tried to work its way back from a 0-3 deficit vs. the Miami Heat to make it back to the NBA Finals, but to no avail.

Brad Stevens has a lot of thinking to do about the team’s roster, and they should look to bring Williams back at a reasonable price, as he’s a respected presence within the locker room and even the vice president of the NFLPA, but most of their offseason plans will obviously center around Jaylen Brown and his massive contract extension.
