Unsurprisingly, the San Antonio Spurs took Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
They didn’t even have to wait the full five minutes to get the pick in, as every single soul on Earth was 100% confident in their decision to take the Frenchman.
Wembanyama’s upside and unique skill set made him a no-brainer pick, even though there was no shortage of talent to choose from in this particular class.
But Wemby is so mesmerizing and enticing that even rival scouts are enamored with his game, with Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN going as far as to say that he could be an All-Star in his rookie season.
.@wojespn on Victor Wembanyama:
“He very well could be an All-Star in his first season. There’s no shortage of executives who I really respect in the NBA who think he could be the best player at both ends of the floor by his third or fourth year.” pic.twitter.com/j2t6LuA8HL

That wouldn’t be the first time it has happened, but Woj doubled down on his take by stating that there are multiple scouts who truly believe that he’s going to be the best two-way player on Earth by the end of his third or fourth season in the league.
Of course, maybe we shouldn’t put that much pressure on a 19-year-old.
He’s used to playing against professionals, but he still needs to endure the physical burden of playing a full NBA season, and it might take a while before he gets used to the speed of the game.
Also, the Spurs won’t rush things or take any chances with their prized rookie.
He’s the building block and cornerstone of their new project, so they need to be cautious and careful along the way.
The upside is definitely there, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see that prediction come true, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
