Over the past decade or so, the debate over the greatest NBA player of all time has been taken to another level, with Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan getting some serious competition from fellow superstars like Los Angeles Lakers greats LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
Although it seems like for many it has come down to a two-man race between Jordan and James, Bryant still gets a lot of consideration from fans, media and current and former players who still revere the late icon as one of the best to ever lace ’em up.
On a recent appearance on “The OGs” podcast with former NBA players Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller, NBA insider Shams Charania was put on the spot about who he views as the G.O.A.T., and he chose Bryant over Jordan and James, via NBACentral.
“I feel like the greatest of all time is an experience,” Charania said. “For me growing up, Kobe was someone that I watched very closely and like, the Mamba mentality and killer instinct. I feel like some of those attributes … I feel like I can apply some of that in my daily life.”

Although Charania will almost certainly get a lot of criticism from fans of Jordan and James, he does have a good point in terms of the player who is the G.O.A.T. being subjective, and it should be who you were drawn to because of their greatness during the time that you fell in love with the game.
In that sense, there’s nothing wrong with Charania choosing the five-time NBA champion, as he influenced many lives during his two-decade career with the Lakers.
