The Miami Heat came close, but they didn’t come close enough.

Now that their season ended in a disappointing loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Finals, the Heat will likely try to make small tweaks during the offseason to get even better.

According to Shams Charania, the Heat actually did try to make a sizable adjustment earlier in the season.

He reports that the Heat made an offer for Kyrie Irving at the deadline, just before Irving was eventually sent to the Dallas Mavericks.

It is interesting and a bit surprising to hear that the Heat were attempting to land Irving only a few months ago.

They were one of the few teams that didn’t make big changes during the last offseason, instead sitting still and sticking with the roster they had.

So why did they take a run at Irving?

Perhaps they have just been waiting for the moment when a star like Irving would become available.

The Finals proved that as good as they are, the Heat are still one or two pieces away from being the top team in the league.

Therefore, no one should be surprised if they try to acquire a player like Irving or someone of his caliber in the weeks and months ahead.

They made it further than most people expected this year but they are not content with continually getting close to a championship and not winning.

Will the Heat attempt to get Irving again or do they have their eyes on someone else in the league?

The next few months will tell us a lot about their future plans.
