The Los Angeles Lakers are now weeks into a coaching search after firing Darvin Ham.

Many names have been floated out there, but one, in particular, has been linked to the team quite a bit in recent weeks, and one NBA insider has revealed what he has heard lately about the next potential coach.

Insider Chris Haynes appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” today (via NBACentral) and said: “I will be very surprised if their next head coach is anybody but JJ Redick. Everything that I’m hearing is JJ Redick.”

This isn’t surprising news, as Redick’s name has been brought up more than any other, and people are also naturally making the connection between him and LeBron James since the two recently started a podcast together called “Mind The Game.”

It’s not the most attractive job to have, as being the coach for James traditionally has not ended well for most people, most recently Frank Vogel and Ham with the Lakers.

Vogel led them to a championship in 2020 and was fired two years later, and Ham was LeBron’s top choice and was still fired two years later despite a Western Conference Finals appearance.

Redick has no coaching experience, but it’s clear he has a great mind and a passion for the game.

As a recently-retired player, he should have no issue connecting to his players and could be a long-term solution if things go right.
