The Golden State Warriors looked like they needed to shake up their roster during the 2023-24 NBA season, but they’ve played much better as of late and are now back in the playoff hunt.

The Warriors’ dynasty looked dead in the water midway through the year, but the team’s gotten strong play from their young talent.

While Stephen Curry and Draymond Green remain constants on the offensive and defensive end, respectively, the rise of Jonathan Kuminga has turned Golden State’s fortunes around.

The young forward has been on a tear and gives the Warriors more of a north-south driving threat who can also create his own shot.

Golden State could’ve dangled Kuminga in trades at the deadline for another proven player, but the team opted to hold onto him instead.

Even though the Warriors could snag another star to pair with Curry and Green, the organization is committed to developing Kuminga via Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

“I have heard Kuminga referred to as ‘untouchable.’ One person said, ‘They’re never trading him.’ They really are committed to him…I can’t think of a trade where they would put him in it,” Shelburne said.

No player in the NBA is truly untouchable, though Golden State is signaling that it would take a near-superstar for them to consider sending away Kuminga.

Although he still has room to grow, Kuminga has the talent to jumpstart the next era of Golden State basketball once their core ages out.

The former lottery pick has the upside to become a star and he looks to be well on his way.
