Not many NBA legends retire without a fanbase that embraces them, and that could be the case with Dwight Howard.
He left most of his former teams in a bad place, except maybe the Los Angeles Lakers after his second stint.
Howard wasn’t the most mature superstar in the game, and fans often took offense at his actions and shortcomings in the postseason.
Nonetheless, as controversial as he might have been as a person, there’s no denying that he’s one of the greatest players of all time.
That’s why former NBA champion John Salley tipped his hat to him, praising his intelligence and claiming he’s the best player to come out of Atlanta (via Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson)

Truth be told, the fact that Dwight Howard didn’t make the league’s Top 75 list was just disrespectful.
We’re talking about a multi-time Defensive Player of the Year, a former No. 1 pick who single-handedly led the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals, an NBA Champion, and the undisputed best big man on Earth in his prime.
Dwight Howard should go down as one of the greatest interior defenders and lob threats to ever live, and he was so dominant in his prime that it’s crazy that some people forget just how good he was.
Regardless of what people may or may not think about him, he should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
Hopefully, he’ll have another opportunity to play in the league before riding into the sunset, as he still has something left in the tank.
