The Charlotte Hornets have never been a powerhouse in the league, at least not in this era of their history.
Michael Jordan’s tenure as a team owner was nothing similar to his time as a player, but the fans won’t have to worry about that anymore.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the NBA’s Board of Governors has officially approved the sale of the team to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, putting an end to Jordan’s 13-year tenure in charge of the franchise.

Under Jordan, the team only made it to the playoffs three times, and they were never able to get past the first round.
They also had the worst season in NBA history and failed to capitalize on their high draft picks more often than not.
Notably, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley — who also happened to be Jordan’s best friend at some point — often predicted this would happen, stating that MJ had surrounded himself with too many “yes men” that were either too afraid or simply unwilling to call him out or let him know when he was making a mistake.
The new ownership will look to straighten the course of the ship once and for all, building around two major cornerstones like LaMelo Ball and current No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller.
Even so, it’s hard to say that this was a failure for Jordan, at least money-wise.
He’ll sell the team for $3 billion after buying it for $275 million 13 years ago, so even when he loses, he’s winning.
