It’s the most exciting time of the year in the NBA, as the playoffs just got started, the Finals are around the corner, and the end-of-season awards are coming soon too.

A panel of writers and broadcasters choose the highly-coveted prizes, including Most Valuable Player.

However, according to a new poll shared by Legion Hoops, players in the league have a definitive frontrunner for MVP.

141 NBA players voted for who should be MVP and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets scored 41.8% of the vote, per The Athletic.

He was followed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder with 36.9%, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks with 9.9%, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics with 4.3%, and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks with 1.4%.

They don’t get a say in who wins MVP but if they did Jokic would walk away with the award.

He probably will anyway, with straw polls suggesting that Jokic is on his way to another MVP.

This weekend, the NBA released its list of finalists for each award and Jokic was in the mix, along with Gilgeous-Alexander and Doncic.

This is further confirmation that he will likely take the prize for 2023-24.

Meanwhile, Bam Adebayo, Rudy Gobert, and Victor Wembanyama are finalists for Defensive Player of the Year, while Tyrese Maxey, Alperen Sengun, and Coby White are in the running for Most Improved Player.

The fact that Jokic is at the top of this players-only list shows how much fondness he gets from the rest of the league.

He is repeatedly one of the most dominant players in the NBA and it’s obvious that other stars see and respect that.
