This NBA Draft is in desperate need of a spark, as it’s already being compared with some of the weakest draft classes of all time and fans are clamoring for anything to talk about that doesn’t involve Bronny James.
One prospect is starting to turn some heads already and is getting some “late-lottery” buzz according to one draft expert.
Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman shared that Pittsburgh Panthers freshman guard Carlton Carrington is being discussed as a late-lottery pick due to his untapped upside as a 6-foot-5 point guard who is only 18 years old, via Evan Sidery.
Carlton “Bub” Carrington is receiving late-lottery buzz, per @NBADraftWass (https://t.co/aKf2IY7MFK).
Carrington, one of the youngest prospects in the class, averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists at Pittsburgh.

Carrington averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game in his lone season at Pitt and showed inconsistent, but promising ability as an outside shooter while also displaying an impressive knack for distributing and taking care of the basketball.
This draft doesn’t have much, if any star power near the top of the board, so teams will be looking for specific tools and untapped talent anywhere they can find it.
Carrington’s length on the perimeter and versatility as a creator on offense are valued skills at the next level, so it’s not surprising he is already generating a lot of buzz given the lackluster top-level talent in this class.
There are some interesting landing spots in the lottery, with the San Antonio Spurs as high as No. 8 being an intriguing option.
Last year, the team struggled to fully unlock No. 1 pick and Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama due to subpar point guard play and an unclear backcourt pecking order, and that would likely be the first destination where Carrington would make plenty of sense.
