Is the NBA about to truly address the issue of load management?
For years now, fans have complained about the practice of benching star players even when nothing is wrong with them as a means to prevent injury and fatigue during the long season.
The league has heard their complaints – and they might be doing something about it.
Shams Charania is reporting that the Board of Governors is expected to vote on a new policy that says a team isn’t able to rest two star players in the same game.
This change in policy wouldn’t end load management but it would definitely limit it.
NBA Board of Governors is expected to vote this week on new policy that a team is unable to rest two star players in the same game, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Many league discussions over past 1-2 years have centered around stars playing more, curbing load management.

There are many questions about this proposed regulation.
Most importantly, how does the league decide what a “star player” is?
There must be qualifications put in place that deem an athlete “a star.”
Secondly, what happens to teams when they violate this rule?
If the league is really serious about minimizing load management, they will have to create some substantial repercussions for violating the rule.
Otherwise, teams will just sit as many players as they want and happily pay the fine.
The league definitely wants to do something about load management because it is an issue that fans complain about often.
They pay good money to watch games and they are disappointed when they miss out on the best players because they need rest.
The Association recently changed requirements for earning end-of-season awards and they hope that will encourage players to be on the court more.
That decision, paired with this new one, could certainly make teams think twice about their roster choices.
