The Los Angeles Clippers managed to get Russell Westbrook to sign at a major discount for them.

Getting a future Hall-of-Famer like Westbrook on a veteran minimum deal is one of the all-time greatest bargains in recent NBA history, even if Westbrook is in the back end of his prime.

But more than that, getting Westbrook also made them James Harden’s preferred destination, as he reportedly wants to be reunited with his former Houston Rockets teammate, according to Joey Linn (via NBACentral).

Notably, Westbrook and Harden go way back, all the way to their days together with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

They’re still pretty close, so it’s not much of a surprise to see his presence being another incentive for him to want to go take his talents to Southern California.

Even so, the latest reports state that Daryl Morey has no intention whatsoever to let him go, especially not at a discount, a decision that has fractured his relationship with the GM.

Moreover, the Clippers are reportedly uninterested in surrendering any big rotation pieces, such as Norman Powell or Terance Mann to get him, and Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are pretty much out of the question as well.

With that in mind, the possibility of watching Harden playing for the Clippers next season seems pretty much non-existent, and he may have to wait another season and work out a veteran minimum deal with them if he’s that serious about teaming up with Westbrook again.
