The Golden State Warriors dynasty appears to be coming to an end as sharpshooter Klay Thompson is a serious threat to walk in free agency.
The relationship between the Warriors and Thompson was frayed when the two sides couldn’t agree to terms on an extension and now the former All-Star can test his market in free agency.
Although Thompson is nowhere near the same level of defender he used to be, he remains one of the NBA’s premier outside shooters and would bolster any contending team’s roster.
There is going to be no shortage of suitors for Thompson’s suitors if he isn’t sign-and-traded by the Warriors in the coming days, with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers waiting to convince him to sign with them.
However, the most serious threat to lure Thompson away from Golden State is the Dallas Mavericks via Jake Fischer of Yahoo.
The Mavericks are one of, if not the strongest suitors for Klay Thompson, reports @JakeLFischer:
“Thompson could be willing to take (the mid-level exception) in order to join the Lakers or Clippers. That would be a steep drop from the two-year, roughly $50 million offer Thompson… pic.twitter.com/YMf8zQ9zEQ

Dallas is coming off a 2024 NBA Finals run where they lost to the Boston Celtics in five games, so their interest in Thompson as a floor spacer next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving makes sense.
Too often, the Celtics were eager to let players like Derrick Jones Jr. and Maxi Kleber launch from deep, so adding Thompson should give the Mavericks much more space to work with.
If Thompson is serious about wanting to add another ring to his collection, Dallas might be his best bet though the other teams have compelling arguments to make for his services.
