The Brooklyn Nets are trying to forge a clear path into the future and are adding help to make that happen.

According to Michael Scotto, the Nets have hired former NBA player Andre Barrett as a scout.

Barret played for Rice High School before moving to Seton Hall University.

Following that, Barrett played for four seasons in the league and moved around a lot, signing with the Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns.

He also was Director of Scouting for four years for the G League Ignite.

Barrett obviously knows the ins and outs of the NBA and will hopefully help the Nets create a strong identity in the years ahead.

The team is starting a rebuilding process that could last multiple seasons.

They have been in a weird place since losing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

They have made some deals during this offseason and made it clear that they covet draft picks.

This is an indication that instead of trying to rebuild their roster quickly, the Nets are playing a long game of slowly accumulating new talent via the draft.

That is where Barrett will help.

As a scout, he will be looking out for up-and-coming stars in high school and college.

He will keep tabs on who the Nets should use their draft picks on and will ideally give them a roster full of young stars who could someday rule the Eastern Conference.

Barrett was born in the Bronx and is now coming back to New York to help the troubled Nets get back on track.
