After parting ways with superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets thought they got a player in return that they could build around on a long-term basis, with Mikal Bridges looking like he could be a star in the making.

Despite the team’s resistance to trading Bridges, as they intended to build a squad around him, Brooklyn couldn’t turn down a blockbuster trade from the New York Knicks, which will give them the assets to start from scratch.

With Bridges now reuniting with his Villanova teammates in New York, the Nets seem to be willing to listen to any trade proposals while bracing for what could be a brutal 2024-25 NBA season in the Eastern Conference.

While the team might be having a fire sale of sorts, the team has still added some pieces to the puzzle, with the most recent addition being former Detroit Pistons first-round draft pick Killian Hayes, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

With the Pistons using the No. 7 overall pick on Hayes back in 2020, Detroit had high hopes that he’d be one of the building blocks for the struggling franchise, but he failed to live up to expectations over the last few years, leading to his release, which must have been brutal for the team.

Despite not living up to the hype in Detroit, Hayes will get another shot to resurrect his career in Brooklyn and might be able to get some time on the floor in what will be viewed as a rebuilding year.
