The Brooklyn Nets have gone through a lot recently.

Multiple roster overhauls, all the media attention, and a lack of postseason success have haunted Joe Tsai’s team for way too long.

For now, the only ongoing drama and non-basketball-related story could be Ben Simmons, as he’s dealt with mysterious injuries and mental health struggles, and it seems like the fans just don’t trust him anymore.

Fortunately for him, that’s not the case with his teammates.

In a recent appearance on The Pat Bev Podcast, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie raved about the potential impact that Simmons could have on the team (via ClutchPoints).

“Ben Simmons at his best form is a far more athletic Draymond Green with less three-point shooting. He’s just never been fortunate enough to play with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.”

Dinwiddie stated that, when he’s at his best, Simmons is a far more athletic Draymond Green, with obviously not that much feel for three-point shooting.

But given that Green isn’t much of a shooter himself either, Dinwiddie believes that Simmons could have that same kind of impact and even numbers if he plays with guys who can spread the floor around him, just as himself, Cam Johnson, and Mikal Bridges.

Dinwiddie thinks Simmons can be the quarterback of that defense because of his IQ, ability to switch and guard one through five, and dominance in passing lanes, all while also providing another elite playmaker.

There’s no denying that Simmons is an uber-talented player with a sky-high upside, especially as a defender.

At this point, we’ll just have to see it to believe it, but the Nets could be a dark horse team in the Eastern Conference if they manage to bring the best out of him.
