Vince Carter may not have the best or most impressive numbers, but he had one of the best careers in NBA history.

Not many players are able to stay in the league for as long as he did, and while younger fans may not know it because of how those later years took his career numbers down, he was actually one of the best scorers in the game during his prime.

That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that the Brooklyn Nets are getting ready to honor him.

The team took to Twitter to tease the fans with a big announcement regarding Carter, and the “5.15” cryptic caption makes it seem like they’ll go public with it on Wednesday (via Erik Slater).

This could be his jersey retirement announcement, and it would definitely make sense.

Carter’s best tenure came with the (then) New Jersey Nets, averaging 23.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.7 three-pointers per game on 44.7% from the floor across five years in which he was a two-time All-Star.

Also, it’s not like the Nets have that many legendary players, with just six guys having their jerseys retired by them: Drazen Petrovic, Jason Kidd, John Williamson, Bill Melchionni, Julius Erving, and Buck Williams.

Carter was recently selected to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and he deserves every bit of praise and honor that comes his way.

A class act and a pro’s pro, he’ll also go down as one of the best Nets ever, as well as perhaps the greatest dunker of all time.
