Heading into the 2022-23 NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets were considered a legitimate title contender in the Eastern Conference, with a stacked roster led by superstar Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Despite a rocky few years in Brooklyn due to several different things, the Nets and their superstar seemed to be on the same page and ready to show the league what they could do over the course of an 82-game season.
Unfortunately for the Nets organization, everything fell apart once again, with Irving eventually requesting the team trade him elsewhere, which ultimately turned out to be the Dallas Mavericks joining forces with Luka Doncic.
Not only after Irving was dealt to Dallas, Durant quietly wanted out and worked his way to get traded to the Phoenix Suns, joining Devin Booker and Chris Paul.
This left the Nets to start from scratch once again and players like Cam Thomas wondering what was going on, but at the same time, more minutes were about to come his way, as he told Gilbert Arenas on Gil’s Arena via ClutchPoints.
“We was like transitioning from like the superteam to like getting those guys outta there… I was like, ‘Sh*t they gotta play me now.'”

Fortunately for Thomas, the Nets weren’t as bad as anticipated, with the team’s two superstars being sent elsewhere ahead of the NBA trade deadline, with Mikal Bridges coming in and having immediate success, and Thomas getting a chance to showcase his talents.
Although the Nets still have a long way to go to be a force to be reckoned with in the East, Thomas did finish the regular season with a 46-point explosion, which proved he could be a valuable piece to the puzzle in Brooklyn moving forward.
