The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense will look quite different next season.

Besides having Baker Mayfield under center instead of Tom Brady, they also hope to have a fresher pair of legs in the running backs corps, with Chase Edmonds leading the way.

Edmonds was expected to have a prominent role in an offense for the first time in his career last season.

He signed a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins and wouldn’t have to compete for touches anymore, but his once-promising season took a dip nearly right away.

He struggled early in the season and was eventually traded to the Denver Broncos in a transaction centered around Bradley Chubb, and he wasn’t heavily involved with his new team, either.

Now, he’ll get a chance to take his career back from the ground, serving as the team’s third-down back while Rachaad White handles bell-cow duties, both teaming up to replace Leonard Fournette.

The 27-year-old had a promising start to his career, albeit in a limited role in Arizona, averaging nearly 5 yards per carry, and that’s the kind of guy he wants to be again next season:

“It’s on the film from my first four years doing it,” Edmonds told the Tampa Bay Times. “I know I can be an elite third running back in this league, and I’m going be one of those guys where I’m a big-time mismatch with linebackers coming out f the backfield, and I’m eager to prove them wrong. I’m eager to get back out there, you know, add that chip back on my shoulder.”

Edmonds admitted that he hasn’t received a playbook yet.

However, new OC Dave Canales has made it a point of emphasis to go back to the running game, which is unsurprising given his past with the Seattle Seahawks.

Canales knows Edmonds quite well from his time as divisional rivals, so he’ll most definitely know how to play him to his strengths.

Now, it’ll be up to him to prove that he’s still got that hunger and a big chip on his shoulder to prove the doubters wrong.
