The New York Yankees lost their bench coach when the New York Mets decided to hire Carlos Mendoza to be their new manager.
After a thorough search, the team decided to bring in former MLB catcher and manager Brad Ausmus to be their next bench coach and replace Mendoza.
Ausmus caught at the highest level for 18 seasons, so he knows a thing or two about the game.
After managing the Detroit Tigers from 2014 to 2017 and then the Los Angeles Angels in 2019, he took a job offer from the Oakland Athletics to be their bench coach in 2022.
He is set to take all that experience to his new role as the new right hand of Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Speaking of Boone, Ausmus discussed the reasons why he decided to join the Yankees, and the current skipper was one of them.
“Brad Ausmus says he was drawn to working with Aaron Boone as a manager because he never made him ‘wrinkle my brow’ as an opposing manager: ‘He never made a move where I said, ‘well, that didn’t make sense’ or ‘why is he doing that?’” SNY Yankees tweeted, with a video attached of Ausmus discussing his future role with the Yanks.

Some fans might be skeptical (it’s fair to say not everyone agrees with Ausmus on his opinion regarding Boone’s decisions as skipper), but in theory, Ausmus should be able to help Boone and his expertise could come in handy in 2024 and beyond.
His managerial and coaching experience has mostly come with weak teams, so this opportunity should be very important for Ausmus’ career.
