In the NFL, quarterbacks are worth their weight in gold, as they play the most important position in all of team sports.

It is axiomatic that if a team doesn’t have a good, let alone a great, quarterback, it will go nowhere fast.

Among players that play all other positions, Justin Jefferson, the star wide receiver of the Minnesota Vikings, had a dream season in 2022, and it led Brad Spielberger of PFF to call him the most valuable non-quarterback in the league.

Jefferson, the No. 22 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has had a meteoric rise to stardom.

He put up 1,400 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie, and he upped those numbers to 1,616 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021 and a league-high 1,809 yards this past season.

His speed downfield and ability to catch contested passes thrown from long distances are two talents to behold.

Behind Jefferson’s high-wattage play in 2022, the Vikings surprised plenty of people by winning 13 regular-season games, which was the second-best mark in the entire league.

It has not been a good offseason for them, however, as they have lost wide receiver Adam Thielen and four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook.

Those two departures will put lots of pressure on Jefferson this fall and winter, but some feel he is ultimately destined to become the first NFL player to attain 2,000 receiving yards in a single season.

If he does so, it would surely answer the question of whether he’s the best wideout in the league over competitors such as the Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams.
