The preseason has officially begun, now that the annual Hall of Fame game has concluded.

This is a yearly event in Canton, Ohio, an opportunity for two teams to face off at the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans duked it out this year, in what turned out to be an exciting game, even though it was cut short by inclement weather.

Because of the inherent lack of superstar power in most preseason games, these contests don’t typically get a lot of viewership, but when Brett Rypien put up some impressive numbers for the Bears, he gave fans a show.

As reporter Brad Biggs highlighted on Twitter, Rypien went 11-15 in his passes, threw for 166 yards, three touchdowns, and had a passer rating of 148.9.

These are some pretty legitimate numbers for a quarterback in any game, preseason or otherwise.

Rypien has only started four games in his NFL career, with his most recent start coming with the Los Angeles Rams last year.

He signed a one-year contract with the Bears in March, giving him a great opportunity to play on a team that’s filled to the brim with potential.

Caleb Williams’ presence limits his chances of playing time during the regular season, but this stat line could give the coaching staff confidence that he’s worthy of a roster spot.

NFL teams always need backup quarterbacks they can rely on, which now could be the case for the Bears and Rypien.
