The 2023 NFL Draft could end up being a very strong one, and much of the attention surrounding it has been focused on a number of quarterbacks.
Bryce Young of Alabama, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Will Levis of Kentucky, and Anthony Richardson of Florida lead what looks like an impressive group of signal-callers.
But Mike Reiss of ESPN shared a quote from draft analyst Todd McShay that says that there is a nice crop of tight ends available that could yield some impact players early in the draft.
Big year for tight ends in the draft: ESPN analyst @McShay13: “Six in my top 62 [players] overall … I know that I haven’t had six in the top two rounds anywhere in the last decade at the tight end position.”

Tight ends may not be nearly as valued as quarterbacks or wide receivers, but if a team feels they have found one that could become a star, they can’t go wrong with such a selection.
The best all-around tight end prospect in this year’s draft seems to be Michael Mayer of the University of Notre Dame.
He is a solid 6-foot-4 and 249 pounds, and he has surpassed the 800-yard mark in each of the last two seasons for the Fighting Irish.
In total, he has put up 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns in three seasons and 36 games at Notre Dame.
Another intriguing tight end prospect is Dalton Kincaid of Utah.
He has been more of a late bloomer than Mayer, but he registered 890 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
There may not be the heir apparent to Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce, or George Kittle in this year’s draft, but teams will certainly be looking at the tight ends that are available as potential contributors.
