The 2023 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are slated to look significantly different this season than they have over the past three years.

For starters, Tom Brady is retired, leaving a drastic skill gap at the position.

Before Brady joined the team, the Buccaneers were best known for their strong defense, one of the best in the league.

That unit has also faced a series of challenges, including Devin White’s trade request to begin the offseason.

While White’s camp has been relatively silent since this request was made public, there has since been a recent development.

According to Rick Stroud, via Dov Kleiman, White has reported to the Buccaneers’ minicamp but has not been practicing with the team.

Update: #Bucs LB Devin White, who requested to be traded from the team, has reported to mandatory Minicamp. Although he isn’t practicing, per @NFLSTROUD

It appears White might be “holding in” instead of holding out to avoid fines by the team.

As Kleiman indicates, White could be “holding in,” while others have “held out” in the past.

Either way, this situation looks to be unresolved, a conflict that has existed for several weeks at this point.

ESPN has reported White to be in search of $18-20 million per year.

If a team were to give White a salary of that magnitude, he would be one of the highest-paid defensive players in the league.

White is only 25 years old, a prime age for the linebacker position.

While he has established himself as one of the best defenders on the Buccaneers’ roster, White’s league-wide value remains to be seen.

The Buccaneers have a lot of unresolved issues heading into the 2023 season.

If White’s contract remains unresolved, and if he does leave for another team, the Buccaneers’ defense could be in for a world of hurt.
