The new-look New York Jets took the field to open the 2023 season in front of their fans at MetLife Stadium amidst lots of excitement and emotion.
With future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook, and a talented cast on both sides of the football, the Jets and their fans have been thinking Super Bowl.
But the air came out of that balloon when Rodgers went down with an injury on New York’s very first offensive series.
Insider Mike Garafolo revealed on Twitter that Rodgers went in for an X-ray and had a walking boot on his injured left foot.

Right after the injury occurred, it was described as an ankle injury and he was listed as questionable to return.
The Jets then announced the X-rays were negative and he was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Already, there is a dark cloud over the New York City area, as any real missed time for Rodgers could singlehandedly cost his team a playoff spot.
Rodgers has gained a negative reputation around the league over the last couple of seasons due to what some would call diva behavior, but if his injury is serious, he could become the recipient of some genuine sympathy.
At the time of this writing, the Jets are facing the Buffalo Bills, a team that, in the minds of many, is still the favorite to finish first in the AFC East, if not the entire conference.
Luckily, New York has arguably the league’s best running back duo and is good enough on defense to perhaps be at least somewhat competitive if Rodgers only misses a short amount of time.
