Unless the NFL has a different dictionary, it seems like players and agents should be reminded of the definition of a contract.
It stands for a written or spoken agreement.
However, it seems like players are looking to break them every time one of their colleagues gets a raise.
Cincinnati Bengals star WR Ja’Marr Chase continues to make the rounds for holding out as he wants to be the highest-paid wide receiver in the league, even if it’s just by one cent.
With that in mind, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the team has intensified it’s efforts to get a deal done with him.
My sense is the #Bengals have intensified efforts in recent days to place Ja’Marr Chase among the NFL’s highest-paid receivers on an extension. Can they beat the clock?

The team clearly wants to keep Joe Burrow happy, and that means paying his best target and teammate what he wants.
Reports state that Chase, the self-proclaimed best wide receiver in the game, wants a deal that tops his former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson.
He still has two years left in his contract, so he’s not even in a position to make such demands.
Truth be told, that’s a very, very dangerous precedent.
Teams must draw a line in the sand at some point.
Even his teammates should step up and remind Chase that he wouldn’t be in a position to make that much money if it wasn’t for the fact that he gets to play.
It’s not that he’s not a superstar and worthy of every penny that’s coming his way; it’s just that he must wait for his turn like everybody else.
