After winning back-to-back championships, the Kansas City Chiefs headed into the NFL offseason with hopes of improving the squad and setting themselves up to make history during the upcoming season, when they can become the first team to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

Unfortunately for Kansas City, the team dealt with several off-the-field issues with their players, as it seemed at one point that Chiefs were getting in trouble on a daily basis.

Although a handful of players found trouble during the offseason after the Super Bowl win against the San Francisco 49ers, promising young wide receiver Rashee Rice made most of the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The most significant incident for Rice was his role in a high-speed, multi-car accident on a Dallas freeway, and to make matters worse, the 24-year-old allegedly fled the scene.

With the start of the 2024 NFL season a week away, with the Chiefs hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 5, the league has yet to announce a punishment for Rice in terms of a suspension or a fine, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network seems to know why.

“My read: With his legal situation not yet settled, Rice remains eligible to begin play this season,” Rapoport wrote on X.

On a conference call, NFL’s Jeff Miller day they are closely monitoring the situation for #Chiefs WR Rashee Rice, saying they’ll follow the legal developments.

It may be good for the Chiefs that they’ll likely have Rice on the field to start the season against the Ravens, who will likely be a tough opponent in the AFC Championship Game rematch, but the uncertainty looming about his punishment must be troubling for head coach Andy Reid.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, they did upgrade the receiving corps during the offseason, adding rookie Xavier Worthy and veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquise Brown.
