Even this late in the NFL offseason, there could still be a personnel move or two that could change or affect the outcome of this coming season.

Star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is a free agent after being released by the Arizona Cardinals, and multiple teams reportedly have interest in signing him.

On Thursday, he reportedly met with the New England Patriots, and insider Jeff Howe of The Athletic tweeted that the visit was “productive” and that there is optimism that both parties could end up agreeing on a contract.

It’s been tough sledding for the Patriots ever since legendary quarterback Tom Brady left following the 2019 season, but that is the reality of rebuilding.

Current QB Mac Jones hasn’t panned out, at least so far, but there is some thinking that perhaps all he needs is a very productive wideout to expedite his development.

That is just one way Hopkins could help New England.

In addition, he could help supercharge a passing game that ranked just 19th in touchdowns scored and 20th in yards gained last season.

The team’s most productive receiver last season was Jakobi Meyers, but he is a member of the Las Vegas Raiders now.

Hopkins is a five-time Pro Bowler, and as recently as 2020, he went over 1,400 yards for the season, which was the third time he had done so in his career.

That type of production in a Patriots uniform would make the race for the AFC East incredibly competitive and that much more interesting this fall and winter.
