For years, NBA fans have called out LeBron James for not participating in the Slam Dunk Contest.
As a matter of fact, just this year, ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith literally blamed him for killing the competition, as he was the first star to refuse to partake in the event, and others followed after him.
Some argue that he didn’t want to get hurt, while others claim that he just didn’t want to lose.
And judging by his unimpressive performance in the only dunk contest he ever participated in, they might be right.
James won the 2003 McDonald’s All-American Game Slam Dunk Contest, and while his vertical, power, and athleticism wowed the judges, his dunks weren’t creative at all, and he even admitted that he got the nod for being the hometown participant, as Shannon Brown was significantly better.
That, combined with his impressive athleticism, makes Anthony Richardson think that he could definitely beat James in a dunk contest.

Talking to Kay Adams, Richardson revealed that he actually thought he could average 12 to 13 points in the NBA.
As for dunking, he’s very confident in his skills, and he thinks he could win the whole thing.
Truth be told, with what the Dunk Contest has become, it wouldn’t be shocking to see any great athlete one-up the unknown NBA players they have partaking in the event, and perhaps an NFL-NBA crossover is just what the league needs to revive this once-great competition.
Not so long ago, the best players on Earth went toe-to-toe to wow the fans.
Now, we have G-League call-ups.
