The Arizona Diamondbacks continued their hot start to the 2023 season on Tuesday as they pulled out an 8-7 win at Busch Stadium over the slumping St. Louis Cardinals.

Arizona won their 11th game of the year and stayed two games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

One of the more interesting moments of the game came in the top of the fourth inning.

The D’Backs had the bases loaded and nobody out with Nick Ahmed at the plate and the game tied at two runs apiece.

Cardinals starter Jordan Montgomery bounced a pitch in the dirt, but Ahmed somehow managed to make contact and send it into left field for a bloop base-hit.

Two runs scored to make it a 4-2 game and Ahmed somehow reached second base.

Arizona continued the onslaught and added three more runs in the top of the fourth on a three-run homer by Gabriel Moreno to make it 7-2.

But it was Ahmed’s hit that gave Arizona their first lead of the night on Tuesday.

Somehow, some way, he managed to hit a double on a pitch that bounced right in front of the plate, which continued an ugly trend for the Cardinals, who have been burned by soft contact for most of the month.

Ahmed’s double put the D’Backs ahead for good on Tuesday, and despite a late Cardinals rally, Arizona held on to win by a final score of 8-7 and secure a series win over the scuffling Redbirds.

They’ll try for a sweep on Wednesday afternoon.
