After dealing with the quarterback situation in the Bay Area by officially naming Brock Purdy the starter and veteran newcomer Sam Darnold as the backup while also trading Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys, the San Francisco 49ers had to deal with a contract situation with their best defensive player.

The 49ers may have secured their future offensively with Purdy as their guy under center moving forward, but defensive end Nick Bosa makes the defense special in San Francisco, so his potential absence was a major concern for this team.

Bosa wanted to be paid as arguably the best defensive end in the game, and few argued with the fact that he’s in contention for that distinction, meaning he’s deserving of a massive, lucrative, long-term contract extension.

Although it took longer than expected, the 49ers brass and Bosa’s representation were able to come to terms on a new deal to make him one of the highest-paid players in the league, and he talked about what it’s like to finally return to the 49ers locker room via KNBR.

With the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year back in the fold in San Francisco, the 49ers have a chance to do something special during the 2023 campaign, as this team could be the most balanced squad in the league with their sights set on winning the Super Bowl.

The 49ers will face their first test this weekend, with Bosa and company traveling to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, who desperately want to make a statement against one of the best teams in the NFL.
