The Philadelphia Eagles already have a quarterback, and that’s not going to change any time soon.
Jalen Hurts is Nick Sirianni’s guy, and the franchise doubled down on that commitment by signing him to a massive deal.
That’s why, even though he wasn’t particularly at his best last season and the Eagles traded for Kenny Pickett, his status as the starter was never in doubt.
With that in mind, the Eagles coach confirmed what most people were already thinking: Kenny Pickett is going to be his backup.
As pointed out by NFL insider Ari Meirov, Pickett went 11 for 13 for 67 yards in their second preseason contest.
#Eagles HC Nick Sirianni reiterated after Thursday night’s preseason game that Kenny Pickett is their backup to Jalen Hurts.
Pickett went 11/13 for 67 yards with four sacks, while QB3 Tanner McKee finished 15/19 for 140 yards with zero sacks in the win over New England. pic.twitter.com/PWNf1yagMu

The New England Patriots also sacked Pickett four times, all while Tanner McKee completed 15 of 19 passes for 140 yards.
Pickett wasn’t able to establish himself with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He entered the league with plenty of doubts, and even though he was never put in a position to succeed, he didn’t do much to show he should be their guy for the future.
The Eagles, on the other hand, will now look to bounce back after a very disappointing season.
They got off to a strong start to the campaign, winning ten of their first eleven games before crumbling in the second half of the campaign.
Notably, plenty of that had to do with Hurts dealing with multiple ailments.
But now that he’s back to full strength, there will be no more room for excuses, especially with another young backup by his side.
