It wasn’t pretty, but quarterback Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers were able to escape their divisional-round playoff matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday with a win.
Purdy threw for 252 yards and only one touchdown, but he helped lead the 49ers on a 69-yard drive in the fourth quarter that ended with San Francisco All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey finding the end zone to give the team the lead with about a minute remaining in the game.
The 49ers eventually walked off of their home field on Saturday night with a 24-21 victory, and after the win, Purdy received plenty of praise online for coming up clutch for his team in the fourth quarter.
Not everyone enjoyed what the San Francisco quarterback did against the Packers, however, and this group included FS1’s Nick Wright, who shared some of his thoughts on Twitter.
“Honest to god, if that’s your takeaway from this game I truly question your ability to cogently watch, analyze and discuss football,” Wright posted.
This was in response to The Athletic’s David Lombardi, who posted, “Brock Purdy answered every single doubt and criticism by delivering a comeback playoff drive that has immediately become part of 49ers legend.”

Purdy would likely be the first to admit that his performance on Saturday wasn’t one of the best he’s put together in his short NFL career.
But the NFL playoffs are a different animal, and games with pretty stats aren’t as frequent.
What earned Purdy praise against the Packers was the fact that when the 49ers needed him the most, the second-year quarterback was able to come through for his team.
During that fourth-quarter scoring drive, Purdy went 6-of-7 on his pass attempts for 47 yards, and he added another 11 yards on the ground with two rushing attempts.
So, overall, Purdy might not have had the most impressive performance as Wright alluded to in his Tweet, but it didn’t matter after the San Francisco quarterback was able to lead his team to a win.
