After losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers were thrust into contract negotiations with up-and-coming wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who wanted to secure a lucrative long-term extension before the 2024 NFL season.

Even though the team and Aiyuk’s representation have been negotiating for months, the two sides don’t seem to be any closer to agreeing to a new deal ahead of Week 1, when the team will host Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.

Things have become so frustrating for Aiyuk during these contract talks that he has asked the 49ers to trade him, which might be the team’s current course of action with all the rumors swirling around San Francisco.

With a trade seemingly inevitable at this point, Nick Wright of FOX Sports said he believes the 49ers really haven’t handled the situation correctly.

“I am shocked at how badly the 49ers appear to have botched this,” Wright said on “First Things First.” “‘Cause they’re not going to get a first-round pick.”

Over the past few days, the rumors have intensified regarding Aiyuk’s immediate future, with the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers the two teams supposedly in the running to acquire the star wide receiver.

Only time will tell whether the 49ers trade Aiyuk and where the 27-year-old will end up before Week 1 kicks off next month, as it seems inevitable a move will be made, unless the 49ers brass agrees to his terms.
