The dog days are finally over for the New York Knicks, and now they and their fans actually have high expectations, especially for next season.

After finishing second in the Eastern Conference and coming within one win of reaching the East finals despite several key injuries, the team has landed two-way stud Mikal Bridges, and many are saying they’re well-equipped to at least challenge the NBA champion Boston Celtics.

In fact, Nick Wright said on Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First” that the Knicks now have their best chance to win it all since 1995.

“This Knicks team has the best chance to win a championship of any Knicks team since 1995.”

Ever since Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing left the team in 2000, it had been a laughingstock, and the memories of it being a perennial playoff team in the 1990s had all but disappeared.

The current iteration of the Knicks is a modern twist on those ’90s teams — it wins with defense and by pounding opponents on the boards, but it is also able to run with almost any team, something its ’90s counterparts weren’t able or willing to do.

Bridges will give them an excellent wing defender and another legitimate scoring option, and he should form a nice wing duo with OG Anunoby, who just agreed to a massive new contract.

There is still work for the Knicks to do this offseason, but if they get that work done, Madison Square Garden could be rocking into June next year.
