After a forgettable 2022-23 NBA regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers were able to clinch a spot in the Play-in Tournament and then finally punch their ticket to the first round of the playoffs to face the Memphis Grizzlies.
As expected, the Lakers were considered underdogs heading into this first-round series against Ja Morant and company, but Anthony Davis and his squad had other ideas in Game 1 on Sunday.
With brilliant performances from Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura and Davis, the Lakers were able to upset the Grizzlies in Game 1 to take the series lead.
As a result of Davis’ incredible defensive performance against the Grizzlies, Nick Wright of Fox Sports doesn’t believe the Lakers will lose this series against Memphis.
“There’s no way the Lakers lose this series.”

Although it was a sloppy game at times by both teams, with some careless passing resulting in turnovers, the Lakers were the better team in this game, even though a lot of that distinction was due to Morant going down with a potentially serious injury.
Morant had a scary fall in this game after a failed dunk attempt and fell with all his weight direction on his right hand, which resulted in him immediately asking to be taken out of the game.
The Grizzlies superstar went straight to the locker room and was ruled out of the game after having his hand taped up.
The consensus right now seems to be that Morant will not be able to play another game in this series and possibly for the rest of the playoffs if they advance, which favors the Lakers moving forward.
