In a professional sport as violent and unpredictable as football, the NFL can be a brutal place to play, where players go down with devastating injuries on a seemingly daily basis.
Unfortunately for the Minnesota Vikings, injuries have really taken a toll on this team leading back to last season, when they lost veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to an Achilles injury and had to deal with Justin Jefferson being in and out of games due to multiple ailments that kept the superstar wide receiver from doing what he does on the football field.
With the team moving on from Cousins during the offseason, as he ended up signing with the Atlanta Falcons in NFL free agency, the team chose to sign veteran quarterback Sam Darnold and draft perhaps the future face of the franchise in JJ McCarthy, out of the University of Michigan.
The Vikings brass were so high on McCarthy that they traded up in the draft to get him, which shows their confidence in the rookie quarterback.
However, McCarthy won’t see the field in 2024, as he underwent surgery on his knee and has been ruled out for the year, which puts pressure on Darnold to lead the team moving forward.
Nick Wright of FOX Sports doesn’t know where the team goes from here, as he believes the Vikings are in trouble via First Things First.
“I just don’t know where you go from here if you’re Minnesota,” Wright said.

Although Darnold might be a formidable option, especially considering that he’s got Jefferson to lean on in the passing game, the outlook for the 2024 NFL season seems bleak for the Vikings.
Only time will tell if the Vikings will be able to hold their own this season with the veteran under center and whether McCarthy can make a quick recovery and prepare for the 2025 campaign.
