After a hard-fought battle in the second round of the NBA playoffs, in which the Dallas Mavericks took down the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, Luka Doncic’s team advanced to the Western Conference Finals and were considered the underdogs against Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves.

With the Timberwolves eliminating the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets in six games in the second round, the consensus seemed to be that they were the team to beat and quite possibly had the best chance of getting the best of the 64-win Boston Celtics if they met in the NBA Finals.

With three games in the books during the Western Conference Finals, that narrative has shifted completely, with Doncic and Kyrie Irving putting on a show in this playoff series, taking a commanding 3-0 lead with Game 4 set to be played in Dallas at American Airlines Center.

In Game 3, Doncic and Irving had 33 points apiece as they pushed the Timberwolves one game closer to elimination, with Nick Wright of FOX Sports believing that the face of the Mavericks franchise is one of the greatest offensive players in league history, via “First Things First.”

“Luka is one of the greatest offensive players the league has ever seen,” Wright said.

Unlike Edwards, who has struggled in this series from the start and has failed to live up to expectations, Doncic has taken his game to another level, hitting big shot after big shot while keeping the Mavericks ahead of the game.

If Doncic continues to play at this insanely high level, Dallas has a legitimate shot of winning it all and being crowned champions for the first time since Dirk Nowitzki lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2011.
