The Dallas Cowboys will be a team with a lot of pressure on them to succeed heading into the 2023 NFL season, with America’s Team being touted as having one of the best defenses in the league while also having a formidable offense led by veteran quarterback Dak Prescott.
Although all the talk right now is centered on the defense and superstar linebacker Micah Parsons leading the charge for Dallas, Prescott could have the most to benefit from a solid 2023 campaign, as he could be one of the next quarterbacks to get a massive contract extension.
Recently, it was reported that the team and Prescott have already begun contract extension talks, which might be premature considering what’s at stake this season with such high expectations.
Nick Wright of FS1 believes that if Prescott has a stellar season this year, he will become the highest-paid quarterback in the league and get the biggest contract in NFL history, via “First Things First.”
“If Dak is awesome, he’s going to be able to be a true & clear untaggable free agent at 32 years old at the QB position. If the Cowboys make the NFC Championship Game for the first time in 27, you’re looking at your first $60M a year player in Dak Prescott.” — @getnickwright pic.twitter.com/qswYcb7jSd

As Wright points out, Prescott has the ability to put a lot of pressure on the Cowboys front office with a solid season in 2023 because he can’t be franchise-tagged for a third time, and Dallas might be forced to pay the desired amount, which could be $60 million per season.
With team owner Jerry Jones being a huge Prescott fan and having defended him with every opportunity he’s gotten, it seems like a foregone conclusion that barring an injury or an awful 2023 campaign, he’ll get paid what he wants and may set the market for quarterbacks in the league once again while still in Dallas.
