With the 2023 NBA Draft just some hours away, all the takes about Victor Wembanyama have flooded social media.
Some believe he’s got GOAT potential, while others tend to think that there’s just no way he’s going to be able to live up to those expectations.
Notably, Nick Wright is one of those, as he claims people are setting him up for failure even if he’s a Hall of Famer.
With that in mind, he put together a list of the top-10 greatest No. 1 picks of the past 30 years.
Best No. 1 picks of the Last 30 Years, according to @getnickwright:
1. LeBron
2. Duncan
3. Shaq
4. Iverson
5. AD
6. Dwight
7. Kyrie
8. Yao
9. D. Rose
10. Blake

At No. 10, he chose Blake Griffin, whose career got off to a great start once he was healthy, but that suddenly fell from grace after years of knee injuries.
Talking about career-altering injuries, Derrick Rose got the nod at No. 9.
He had the potential to rule the Eastern Conference and was a human highlight reel before that injury that changed everything.
Yao Ming was No. 8 on Wright’s list, and one could argue that Yao’s impact was more of a global one than what he did on the court, but he was still a force to reckon with when he was in his prime.
Then, at No. 7, he chose former NBA champion Kyrie Irving, who might as well have the greatest handles in the history of the game.
Dwight Howard was his choice at No. 6, even though he’s a multi-time Defensive Player of the Year and one of the GOAT rebounders.
Anthony Davis may not have as good a résumé as Dwight, but he still one-upped him on this list, maybe because he’s more offensively talented.
Unsurprisingly, Wright chose Allen Iverson at No. 4, granted that he was one of the most influential players of all time.
Then, he chose a trio of legends in Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, and LeBron James, citing that there’s no way that Wembanyama will have a better career than any of them.
